Being a mother myself, this was pure horror. I totally freaked out watching that happen, though I kind of expected it. And it proved me right when I said this whole setup reminded me of Saw after seeing episode 1 on Friday. Good God. I'd give him anything he wants if I were Matheson to get my child back.

Wow - flippin brilliant, sick, but brilliant! I'm stunned how engrossed I am even though the whole thing so far is less than 15 minutes. Sound effects are gruesome, too . . . So, what does Boylan want from Matheson? I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

OMG, this just keeps getting better and better! At this point I think I need to say a big thank you to Dan Turner for his direction - brilliant work!
I've decided tonight that having to wait for the episode to load is actually working in the show's favour, the tension is almost unbearable as I get the episode in two sentence chunks (before playing it again all the way the through)

Brilliant. Sick! I knew what was going to happen and I still jumped and felt like I was going to throw up! I had to have the headset on because my roomie doesn't like this stuff. I tore then off and yelled "F***!" at the end of the episode causing her to jump. Time for Matheson to go postal on Boylan. I hate waiting.

I loved the performances of GDL and Absolom again. They are stunning, individually, and the two actors mesh perfectly together.
Too bad my worst fear about the plot came about.....I hope something really amazing happens in the writing to make the kidnapping of Holly remotely believable. Matheson stays on the case; turns off the surveillance camera; pulls a gun on an unarmed, handcuffed suspect--well, he may as well go ahead and complete the fantasy by shooting Boylan, because Boylan just got off on all charges, because the case is tossed based on all of the protocol violations. Serial killer goes free. Unless something truly inventive in the writing happens to explain away how reality doesn't apply in this instance.
Oh, well. Time to haul in the major suspension of all disbelief and just go with whatever happens; it's the performances I'm hooked on above all else, so that's what I'll focus on: the acting school provided by GDL's utter brilliance.

Yep i agree i really didn't want to be the one that said it but i'm going to i hope Russell T Davis is watching banging his head on the table and thinking "OH MY GOD what was i thinking getting rid of Gareth has Ianto!" That's the Ianto fan/janto/torchwood fan talking BUT the Gareth fan of me thinks is there anything this guy can't do we are getting to see what he can't do?
Sorry everyone for being the one who said it about COE and RTDA

i kina feel, at tis moment as a gareth an, that gareth was almost wasted on ianto. He never got anything meaty enough (okay if u read that wrong ur bring lives with mine is the gutter lol).
Let hope gareth gets more parts like this... the only shame is that theres a lot of peole wo wont see this and see how good he is. There's a lot to be said for a subtle actor, gareth just has a very subt;y but powerful pressence. He really looks like a scary... fluffer... in this not cos hes a bad guy but cos you can see the restraint matheson has.
god Mattheson really is getting put the wringer in this show!
I just wih it was longer (wishing/hoping this will act as more of a pilot)
Joe is fantastic too... he always looked a bt creepy, but now hes in the centre of my nihtmares.
the cast is actually really fantastic, no weak links. well done dan an james!!

Well, the plot went kerflooey in a hurry....maybe it'll get back on track as quickly. Although I don't really believe that; still, hopeless optimist here. The lack of realism grates--but so does the tired idea that it all only counts if your own child is in danger. As if anyone who doesn't have a child can't possibly be human enough to be properly horrified, and as if anyone with a child still can't really care about tortured and murdered stranger-children. Only your own child in danger really, really makes it matter to you. *eye roll* I just can't see how this can can work out of that cliche. I'm hoping to be surprised, as with the problematic issue of police procedures.... But, if it's just going to keep going in the vein it is--at least there is the acting. I won't miss a moment of that.

the thing is though he did care. His reaction was there he was upset an sickened.
but h idnt know thoe kids and even though he was upset/angry its never going to be the same as osig your own child.
Yes, the 'ive got your child' thing has been done, however, this is james moran we're taking about a if anyone can make an overused concept new and different it's him.
I'm sure there will be some sort o exlanation as to how he got the child (accomplice/clever planning etc) after all boylan is a sick and twisted genious... all is NOT as it seems

My guess as to why Boylan has singled out Matheson? He must have done something to his kid (causing death, most likely) while he was intoxicated (isn't it implied that he drinks too much)? But it kinda doesn't make sense... why would a killer go through the trauma of having one child suffer then become a tormentor of children himself? I can understand wanting to make Matheson suffer by going after his kid (which is revolting enough), but why bring other innocent kids into it?
